The importance of a standing exam

If you have seen an Osteopath before, then you have most probably been examined standing, sitting and/or lying down. The purpose of this is to observe what factors could be contributing to your symptoms. Your Osteopath will be assessing:-

# Posture

# Function

# Muscle tension, strength, stability and control

# Areas of swelling and inflammation

# Other potential causes, including respiratory, cardiovascular or neurological deficits which may require special testing or onward referral

All this information will help form a working diagnosis of your problem, and this will be fully explained to you. The more knowledge that can be passed on to you, the more you will feel you have control of your injury, rather than just being a passenger.
